Women and Weight Loss: Lifelong Struggle

Obesity for women is a problem in the United States.  The percentage for women in the United States is high.  I am among one of the women that struggles with weight.  Women become over weight for many reasons.  Weight gain may result from pregnancy, environmental factors, culture, genes, and taking in more calories than your body burns off.

Women often have claimed that their reason for not exercising is because they do not have enough time.  Being overweight can bring on significant health problems; such as, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and many more health problems.  If you are serious about losing weight and maintaining a healthy life style, educating yourself about the benefits of weight loss and staying healthy will help you not only maintain a healthy weight, but may help you get rid of any existing health issues you may have.  There are many ways that a woman can help herself reach her ideal weight.  For example, create a healthy eating and exercise plan.

Before you start any weight lose plan, consult your doctor.  You want to set safe weight lose limits and your doctor may help guide you in doing so. You may also want to keep a journal of the foods you eat and how much you have exercised.  This will help keep you on track with your weight loss goals.  Keeping a journal will also help you make healthier food choices.

The goal is to burn off more and eat less.   Regular exercise combined with a lower calorie diet will help you lose weight. Eating fruits, veggies and calcium rich foods will help your weight loss.  These still have to be eaten in moderation.  Eating lots of whole grains is important, it  may help reduce your risk for getting strokes, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. A diet rich in whole grains also can enable better weight management.

Staying active should be a priority when losing weight, and after to maintain the weight lost.  Staying active can help prevent you from gaining those unwanted pounds back, and will further lower your risk for some serious health problems such as, lung cancer, endometrial cancer, bone density issues, and help improve your sleep.  Regular activity also helps to lower your blood pressure, and helps boost your metabolism.  Your activity level may be different than someone else’s because you may have limitations.

Weight management and activity level is different for a woman who is pregnant.  Moreover, exercise during pregnancy will not stop weight gain, but it can help you manage the weight gain during your pregnancy.  For example, strength exercises are healthy.  The benefits of doing these exercises is that you will increase your metabolism, which you will use more calories.  Women who exercise during their pregnancy find that they have more energy, their bodies are stronger, and they are able to stand labor a little easier.  Exercise and good weight management is a win situation.  You cannot go wrong with either one.
